Affordable Health Insurance, Broken Down
The article on Health Care legislation at the Wall Street Journal does an excellent job of breaking down several components that could contribute to a more affordable health insurance system for Americans.
First and foremost, separating health care from our actual health is a key factor - the article rightly suggests that our medical care system is designed to support treatment of the sick, not preventing sickness itself.
And this is why there is no afforable health insurance - because too many people don't purchase it until they are sick. If we focused more on boosting overall health and preventing illness at all, fewer Americans would get sick, prices would be lower, and more healthy people could be incentivized to purchase coverage.
And of course, health coverage is definitely separate from health care. Just ask someone who needs an expensive but life saving treatment that isn't covered by their insurance, and they'll set you straight on that important fact.
There are indeed several different means of lowering costs and making affordable health insurance available to all Americans on the table right now. We just need to see some form of compromise between Republicans and Democrats so that something can actually get done.
Because until then, the American people will keep suffering from overpriced insurance that too often doesn't protect them in their time of need.
If they can get insurance at all.
