Latest Political Scandal Indicates Health Coverage Legislation is Attacked from All Sides
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is famous for going after members of the media that he believes are "out of line," but this latest skirmish might mean that health coverage legislation is truly facing criticism from both conservaties and liberals.
According to ABC News' article on health care legislation, Gibbs and liberal media figure Ed Schultz had an on-air and off-air argument regarding whether or not current health coverage legislation is representative of what liberals had wanted for America.
Schultz insinuated that President Obama and his team hadn't fought hard enough for a public option, and that the current bill is actually something that health insurance companies will enjoy seeing passed.
Gibbs responded that if health insurance companies were so excited about the bill, they wouldn't have spent millions trying to keep it from passing.
Upon further argument in private, Gibbs reportedly told Schultz to "perform an anatomically impossible act upon himself."
What's at the bottom of this argument is a very real fact regarding health coverage and legislation: no one will be really happy with what comes to pass.
Health insurance companies will lose money when they can no longer deny individuals with pre-existing conditions.
Liberals aren't going to get a public option to drive up competition and drive down prices.
Conservatives, most of whom have been against health care legislation from the start, are going to hate any bill that gets passed.
So, there's really no way for most public figures to enjoy the passing of any insurance legislation.
But for those millions of Americans who need health coverage, all that matters is their health. And for that reason and that reason alone, making everybody else happy shouldn't matter anyway.
