Generally, people felt health insurance was unnecessary before the 1920s; therefore, there was no nationalized health insurance. Although many European nations had some sort of compulsory health insurance plan in place, America did not for the following reasons:
Support for legislation was low due to lack of demand
Pharmacists and Physicians opposed legislation because they feared it would undermine their business
