Understanding
Catastrophic Health Insurance
Catastrophic health insurance is the basic coverage you
need if your employer does not offer health insurance
or if you are on your own and need some kind of coverage.
Catastrophic insurance will cover any kind of major hospitalization
that, God forbid, may happen. For example, if you get
into an auto accident and are sent to the emergency room
you will probably find yourself with quite a hospital
bill. We do not wish to alarm you but you do need to be
prepared in the case of emergency. Therefore, an affordable
catastrophic medical coverage, also known as catastrophic
medical insurance, is the bare minimum that you need.
One of the added benefits of catastrophic health insurance
is that you can look at it as the bare bones of health
insurance. Or to phrase it another way, you only pay for
the health insurance you need. Ask your self this question,
How often do I visit the doctor? If the answer
is rarely then catastrophic medical insurance is something
you should take a closer look at. You will usually find
that monthly premiums for catastrophic medical coverage
to be more affordable then more comprehensive forms of
health insurance. But be very careful, if you decide to
purchase catastrophic health insurance, be aware that
you will be paying a higher deductible and more out of
pocket for your doctor visits.
